A barrel pump (also known as a drum pump) is a portable pump designed to extract liquids from barrels, drums, canisters, and similar containers. It consists of a tube that is inserted into the container and a pump head (manual, electric, or pneumatic) that draws liquid up and out for transfer or dispensing.
Barrel pumps can handle a wide range of liquids including oils, fuels, solvents, chemicals, acids, bases, water-based fluids, and many industrial fluids. The correct material selection (PP, aluminium, stainless steel, or PVDF) and seal type (Buna, Viton, or PTFE) depends on the specific fluid being transferred.
Electric barrel pumps offer consistent, hands-free operation without physical effort. They provide higher and more controllable flow rates compared to manual pumps, reduce operator fatigue, and are ideal for frequent or high-volume transfer operations in industrial environments.
Material selection depends on the chemical compatibility of the fluid being transferred. PP and PVDF are ideal for acids, bases, and aggressive chemicals. Aluminium suits oils and fuels. Stainless steel is preferred for food-grade or hygienic applications. Seal materials (Buna, Viton, PTFE) must also match the fluid's chemical properties.
